On Day 1 Dr. Strokon discusses the concept of the A.L.F. appliance and the importance of understanding cranial movementas it applies to dentistry. The principal variations in the morphology and function of the skull and face are described andtheir effect on malocclusion is demonstrated. The lecturer uses clinical evidence to illustrate these variations and how they can be modified by the A.L.F. appliance. You will discover how a rationale for parafunctional movement has beendeveloped as a result of this approach. On Day 2 Dr. Strokon examines relevant diagnostic techniques and explains the correlation of chairside findings withradiographic and articulator-derived information. The greater part of the day is devoted to the A.L.F. appliance design and its clinical application. The insertion of the appliance and its adjustments are demonstrated. Particular attention is given tothe bio-compatible properties of the A.L.F. and its relevance to current, low-force orthodontics.
THE SPEAKER, DENNIS STROKON B.S., D.D.S.Dr. Dennis Strokon has used orthopaedic and orthodontic techniques for many years in conjunction with his advancedrestorative practice. He now uses the A.L.F. appliance extensively in his practice. He finds the concepts involved indiagnosis of cranial based problems apply equally to restorative and temporomandibular procedures as well as toorthodontics. Dr. Strokon has studied with the dental pioneers in the field of functional cranio-anatomy and physiology and owes a greatdeal of his knowledge of A.L.F. treatment to Dr. Darick Nordstrom who originated the A.L.F. concept. The entire focus of his practice has changed from using a conventional approach to a more specific individual treatmentutilizing A.L.F. principles. Dr. Strokon works closely with therapists who have cranial skills.Together with Dr. Gavin James, Dr. Strokon co-authored ten original articles on Cranial Movement and its relationship tomalocclusion. The articles appeared in three dental journals and were awarded Honourable Mention-Golden Pen by theInternational College of Dentists, USA Section. Dr. Strokon has lectured to several groups of dentists and osteopaths in Canada, U.S.A. and the U.K.
